CC4C received 2018 Stars of Lake County Award

On Saturday night, Feb. 17th, at Soper Reese theater, CC4C received the trophy for the category, "Organization of the Year, Volunteer". I, Barbara Christwitz accepted the trophy on behalf of all of us. Four paragraphs were read and one sentence, namely, "They (CC4C) have officially adopted a portion of State Route 53 through Clearlake and spend at least one day per week cleaning the highway, often Saturday morning". was incorrect. While the truth is that CC4C spends one day per month cleaning SR highway 53 as our Adopt A Highway project, it would be wonderful if a person(s) would commit to walking a portion(s) of SR Highway 53 once a day. Any volunteers?
Below are the kind words from Clearlake's City Manager, Greg Folsom, read on CC4C's behalf as Congressman Thompson presented the trophy and certificate. Also thank you for our sponsoring organization: Community First Credit Union
You guys are superstars in my book and I do what I can to get you the accolades you deserve! Here is what I provided to the LC Chamber:
Citizens Caring for Clearlake, otherwise known as CC4C, is an awesome, all-volunteer organization that is not afraid of getting their hands dirty to make Clearlake a better place. They love to pick up trash in and around Clearlake. In fact, they have a rule to “participate only as long as it is enjoyable.” They must really enjoy it because they have been doing it for years. When they send out their emails saying where the cleanings are for the week, it comes out as “Opportunities to Join CC4C for Work and Fun.”
They have officially adopted a portion of S.R. 53 through Clearlake and spend at least one day per month cleaning the highway, often Saturday morning. They also spend a considerable amount of time cleaning the parks, and other areas of Clearlake. On Valentine’s Day they were out showing the love to Sulphur Bank Road, which they have done for the last four years.
The City of Clearlake has partnered with CC4C on several cleanup projects that have resulted in significant neighborhood improvements, including a huge illegal dump site at Koloko and Pearl and the City’s annual Clearlake Clean up Day. They were instrumental in the City’s efforts to attract retailers to the former Ray’s building by helping to clean up the property behind Ray’s. Over 100 shopping carts were removed and over 100 cubic yards of garbage were picked up thanks to CC4C and we will all very soon enjoy Tractor Supply Company and Big 5 in Clearlake instead of a vacant building.
Barbara Christwitz, Vicki Crystal, Neickol Cook, Molly Lang and their gang of all stars can be seen nearly every day making Clearlake a cleaner, nicer place. CC4C is truly one of the Stars of Lake County!
